This presentation will focus on the relevant topics related to practice before the Nevada Appellate Courts. The panel discussion will include published opinions issued over the past year that are relevant to the practice of family law. Attention will focus on an array of topics, including child custody awards to nonparents and the need to join them as parties (Micone v. Micone, 132 Nev., Adv. Op. 14, 368 P.3d 1195 (2016)), criminal contempt (Lewis v. Lewis, 132 Nev., Adv. Op. 46, 373 P.3d 878 (2016)), appealable judgments, and emergency motion practice. The panel will also invite audience questions and discussion concerning NRAP 17 and how it is working in its division of cases between the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.
